Our Story
Kidizens is an innovative educational environment which encourages collaborative and guided discovery of real-world concepts. Through immersive, hands-on LEGO experiences, children explore how communities work — not through textbooks, but by building cities, debating policies, and role-playing civic leadership.
Our founder, Prerana Vaidya, envisioned a space where children could explore the foundations of civic life in a way that is tangible, exciting, and deeply collaborative. What started as a single workshop in Los Altos has grown into a network of programs across 7 Bay Area locations, reaching hundreds of children each year.
Today, Kidizens offers six distinct programs for ages 6 through 14+, from introductory play-based learning to advanced civic simulations. Our team of educators brings together backgrounds in education, creative arts, and community leadership — all united by the belief that every child can become a thoughtful, engaged citizen.
Kidizens Build, Learn, Lead — One Brick at a Time
Highly immersive and interactive real-life experiences. Our project-based learning approach equips kids with 21st-century skills while enabling loads of LEGO fun.
What Makes Kidizens Different
In a highly creative, collaborative, and engaging project-based learning environment with countless LEGOs, children build, inhabit, manage, and govern their own small-scale cities. Numerous opportunities for immersive role-play in an engaging LEGO city framework mean that children are empowered to be the architects of their own learning experience.
Why Kidizens
Social-Emotional Learning
Children develop empathy, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making through collaborative city-building.
Project-Based Learning
Real-world challenges, hands-on problem solving, and meaningful projects that build 21st-century skills.
Collaborative Learning
Every build is a team effort — children learn to negotiate, delegate, and support one another.
Empowerment
Children lead their own civic experiences — running for office, managing budgets, and shaping their LEGO communities.
Our Child-Centered Learning Philosophy
We believe in child-centered, holistic, experiential learning. Our approach integrates social-emotional learning with 21st-century skill development through immersive role-play and hands-on experiences.
Collaborative City-Building
Children work together to design, build, and govern cities that reflect real civic structures and challenges.
Immersive Role-Play
From mayors to city planners, children step into civic roles and experience the responsibilities of leadership firsthand.
Creative Problem Solving
Open-ended challenges encourage children to think critically, innovate, and learn from both success and failure.
The Educators' Role
Teachers are facilitators, never the decision-makers. They guide discovery, ask thoughtful questions, and create the conditions for children to lead their own learning journeys.
Age-Appropriate Program Offerings
Six programs designed for different stages of development — from foundational play for ages 6-7 to advanced civic simulations for ages 11 and up.
